Welcome to your yoga for surfers lesson, this is a quick yoga session that can be done as a warm-up before heading out to surf.

You might be a surfing pro or a total beginner, either way it’s important to warm up the body before heading out to surf (neck ache is no fun!).

This yoga class is made for you, stretching the whole body, focusing on the upper body, from your neck all the way down to your hips.

The sound of the waves has been left for you in the background to soothe you during your yoga lesson.

Being a total surf beginner, to me the ocean is big and scary (am I the only one with this fear 😅) however floating on a surfboard, with others, watching others catch waves and seeing the colour of the sky change into sunset. Is the closest feeling I’ve felt to be in nature, to snowboarding.

Surfing is challenging, especially in Japan the good swell usually comes when there’s a typhoon and the waves are choppy and not so beginner friendly.

Filmed in Naoetsu, in Niigata prefecture Japan, close to my house in Myoko. Surfing here is the best during the winter! Which is when I’m snowboard and definitely not at the level to go winter surfing, yet!

Another location where I’d recommend to surf is Shikoku. There’s Tokushima, where my mum’s family are from and Kochi prefecture. There’s a strong surfing culture there, don’t let the locals intimidate you, be friendly and enjoy the fun.

The best spots in Shikoku, Tokushima prefecture are Kaifu River mouth, Shishikui, in Kochi prefecture there’s Ikumi beach and then you’ll have to go closer to Kochi city and further south all the way to Tosashimizu.

The surf is best during typhoon season and in between it can be incredibly flat. So investing in a SUP board can be another way to enjoy the beach life.

I hope that you enjoy this lesson. Let me know if you tried this in the comments below and how it made you feel?
