Welcome to your Bedtime Yoga Sequence class, this is for if you’re finding it difficult to sleep, yoga can help make you feel calmer and to slowly ease you to sleep.

I’ve listed my 4 ways to the best sleep, along with a Bedtime yoga class.

This past June, I wasn’t doing my morning yoga and I was sleeping really badly. I’m not sure if it was a shorter cycle this month but most probably an overthinking mind.

I never used to be an early sleeper or an early riser. This all changed when I met Leif, who supposedly use to put himself to sleep at 6 pm as a child!

This man sleeps sometimes at 20:30 and gets up happily at 5:30 am! Sometimes I wonder if he is actually a robot or an alien.

He is an incredibly active person, he is either fully charged and then it hits 20:00 and he’s on 1% battery.

I on the other side, I’m more inclined to faff (he calls me lady faff a lot) minus teaching yoga and making myself work out, I don’t move a great deal throughout the day.

This really works?

So I decided I’d try some bedtime yoga and oh my goodness, I truly had the best night’s sleep!

This idea came to me from a yoga student at the Akakura Kanko Hotel, who watched some pre bedtime yoga poses on TV and I was curious.

The night coincided with the full moon, I left the windows open, the moonlight charged me up like a crystal in the middle of the night.

That combination, may not be accessible to all, but if you sleep near a window, make sure to keep the curtains open on a full moon. Let me know how you feel the next day!

Where did our childhood bedtime routine go?

As children we are taught to go to bed, there’s a routine, you have a bath, then you brush your teeth and you read a book before you go to sleep.

What happened to us as adults! Why did we forget to lull ourselves into sleep?

Technology could be the main breaker of a peaceful bedtime.

Along with stress, depending on what’s happening in your life and work.

However these are both things that can be managed before you hit your pillow for a peaceful slumber.

4 ways to the best sleep

1 – Take a rest from Technology

I am 100% guilty of this, its a terrible habit and I’m trying to cut down. Try to not use your mobile phone, laptop or tablet at least an hour if not 2 hours before bed!

Gasps in horror!

No seriously, no amount of facebook advertised blue tinted glasses will help you more than JUST NOT BEING ON YOUR PHONE!

There’s nothing wrong with technology, I can call family and friends essentially for free anytime that I want and can watch cat videos all the time, its incredible.

Much ike your phone battery needs to recharge when its on 1%, so do you!

A good night’s sleep is the ticket for you to have a better day, be more productive and to better mental health.

2 – No phone in the bedroom!

I learnt this tip from the amazing life coach Mel Robbins, she advises to keep the phone out of the bedroom.

Do you put your phone right next to your bed? Do you scroll through instagram or emails right before falling asleep? Then wake up and check social media first thing as you get up?

Social media, has very intelligent psychologist, who market their apps to grab your attention! Worse than a manipulative boyfriend!

We are being manipulated and the only way to take control of this, is to manage our consumption of social media.

Now I don’t have my phone in my bedroom ever! I’ve somehow, through example / getting extremely pissed off when the phone buzzes as I’m drifting to sleep (I’m a light sleeper).

I got Leif to do not have his phone in the bedroom too.

I have to physically get out of bed, to turn off my alarm and I don’t have my phone to scroll through right before sleeping.

I’ve suggested this to a friend before, she said she couldn’t because her alarm is on her mobile.

The answer is to put it in the cupboard, wardrobe, or ensuite bathroom, or the corner of your bedroom.

Just don’t have your phone right next to your bed.

  1. Get ready for bed

Whatever work, or thing you may have thought of right after you thought, I’m tired I should go to bed.

Drop it.

Get ready for bed. This is something that I struggle with. Mostly my anxiety must get the best of me and I think of EVERYTHING I haven’t done, which must be done now.

Shower, brush and floss your teeth, do your nighttime skin care routine and get yourself ready for bed.

If you do this daily, it will allow your mind to realise that bedtime is what’s coming next.

  1. Do some bedtime yoga

Taking the time out to reconnect with your breath, allowing yourself the time to slow down, do a few relaxing yoga poses and feel calmer for bed.

I added this into my bedtime routine, by thinking I want to take 30 minutes to do some yoga and meditation.

So I got ready for bed around 21:00, then I had 30 mins to do a youtube video and meditate and I was in bd by 22:00.

So scroll back up have a watch of this gentle Bedtime Yoga video I made for you.
