Day 1

‘Get Started’ Beginner Yoga Challenge

When I said that this yoga challenge is easy, I wasn’t being entirely honest.

You see, certain poses in yoga seem “easy”, when in fact there’s a lot more subtle going on, which when you’re a complete beginner, you may only realise, because you just “feel good”.

The pose I’m introducing, is my absolute favourite pose and probably the number 1 reason why I love yoga.

Welcoming in, Shavasanna, called Corpse Pose in english, it’s essentially the societally approved adult “nap time”!

Doesn’t it sound dreamy? Well actually this is the part where I lied just a little.

Shavasanna looks like a sort of nap pose, however you’re meant to lie down, facing upwards, without moving, without thinking and without falling asleep.

You’re supposed to relax *gasp in horror*.

For some people this is the hardest pose of all, I have seen countless students, who just don’t know how to just rest!

They keep moving, stretching while in Shavasana, which is fine, you do you. But its just literally 5, if you’re lucky 10 mins you’ll ever be allowed to just totally be.

Nothing has now become a luxury, something that we think monks and enlightenened beings can attain or something left for those “lazy” people.

Your brain cannot cope with all of the over simulation that we deal with on the daily, especially with social media and our phones.

Use this pose, to embrace nothing and enjoy it!

I’ve taught a few classes with complete beginners, when its time for Shavasana a lot of people just don’t get it. It’s also always done right at the end, so I guess it does sort of sneak up on you.

This is why I’ve made this the yoga pose for Day 1.

Shavasanna has many benefits here’s a list of them below:

So give the video above a try and if you enjoyed it, let me know!
