Yoga Class in Akakura Onsen Myoko

February 3, 2019

We’re past the first month of the year and into the busiest time of the year in Myoko. We’ve had a busy January in Myoko, the busiest with guests since I first got here a couple of seasons ago.

Great for all of the businesses in the area, but not so great for fresh tracks all day on the mountain. If you’re bring guided by a local person or a guide, there’s still plenty of fresh snow to be found, if you work a little harder for it.

In January I was able to add more lessons, I now teach a Monday afternoon lesson at Akakura Park Hotel and a afternoon lesson at Taiko Hotel, both located in central Akakura Onsen village.

I’ve also had the pleasure to teach three private group yoga classes across Akakura Onsen village. With the kindness of the owners of the hotel and lodges. One of the hotel doesn’t want to talk about them, but it was thanks to Karen for organising her group for a lesson.

I would like to thanks Kitamura-san and his wife from Central hotel, for kindly letting me use a lovely heated, tatami mat room for Racheal’s group of 8, at a short notice. While Tania from Myoko Ski Lodge, for a second year, had a lovely private group lesson for 5 at their nook in the lounge, by the crackling fireplace.

I’ve really enjoyed teaching these private group classes and I am available in the afternoon with at least 48 hours notice to contact your accommodation for a private yoga lesson for your group.

Especially when its too cosy to leave your warm lodge or hotel. If you’d like to book a private class for you and your group, please enquire here.

The style of each class is different. However each yoga class is focused on skiers and snowboarders. Each class begins with calming down, with some breathing, followed by a warm up, working towards soothing lower back and hip pain, caused by snowboarding and skiing fresh Japow snow on the mountain everyday.

This class is a perfect way to end a day on the slopes or in the sidecountry (possibly backcountry), if you’re not looking to party hard that night, you can then choose to Onsen at either Akakura Park Hotel or Taiko Hotel after yoga.

This month’s classes are listed below, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me on nanacoyoga@gmail.com.

I look forward to meeting you in class.
