Top 6 Yoga Podcasts to help you with your yoga career

March 5, 2018

Podcasts were something that I’d heard of from other bloggers, however I never really took the time to listen to a single one.

Last summer with longer commutes on the train, no internet access on my mobile and driving around. I decided to use that time wisely and listen to these podcasts that are full of wisdom.

Maybe even wisdomousness, which I know is not a word but it just sounds so right.

The list of covers Yoga related podcasts, while also covering spirituality (not the Christian kind, the Eastern kind) and mindfulness.

As a yoga teacher in the midst of beginning my career, I feel that I have so much to learn, these podcasts are brilliant because you can be doing menial tasks, like commuting, cooking, eating or washing the dishes, while also learn something new.

As a new yoga teacher, this is a strange thing as you’re kind of thrown into the land of entrepreneurship. They definitely didn’t prepare me for that at yoga school or University!

On another note though, if you’re also a new teacher and in the same boat, nobody not even the most successful people out there, who you may enviously look up to on instagram, know what they’re doing!

Yes I did work this out in my first “real life” job in marketing, really no one has a clue what they’re doing, its like we’re all playing adults. So get any help that you can, from a friend you admire, a teacher you admire and ask.

These podcast have really helped me to grow Nano Yoga, being a yoga teacher in Myoko, in the powder mountains in the winter and a retirement like village in the green season.

I’m having to adapt from teaching English speaking customers spending their winter season around Myoko Kogen, to a more mature crowd in the off season from Spring to Autumn.

This may be tricky, there’s a lot that I’ll have to work out by myself, but any help is good and these podcasts cover so many topics, that I may have never even thought about before.

I even got more into crystals, because one podcast guests, was so passionate and explained crystals in such an easy way.

There is no particular order to the podcasts below, see which resonates the best with your own interests.

I would also recommend subscribing to stay up to date, if you really like a podcast, a review on itunes really helps to get them more noticed, much like youtube it is now a saturated market.

Also if you have a lot of knowledge yourself on a subject, whether its yoga, meditation or … sewing, anything really, I would recommend to create a podcast.

Podcasts are the best! I absolutely love listening to them and hope you’ll enjoy my list below.

1. The Connected Yoga Teacher

This podcast covers a range of subjects for new yoga teachers. Shannon Crow hosts the podcast, she’s a yoga teacher herself, her niche is pelvic health yoga, Shannon also mentors yoga teachers through their career.

She created this podcast so that she could share the knowledge for new yoga teachers to learn from and to connect.

Whether she talks about money mindset, a block for most people (women) when selling their yoga classes, to marketing for yoga teachers to anatomy.

Shannon is so lovely to listen to, she has a kind voice and you can really feel that she wants to share this knowledge and hopefully it will also help you with your own yoga career.

Episode Best Picks:

The Connected Yoga Teacher – Episode 39: Advice for New Yoga Teachers

The Connected Yoga Teacher – Episode 34: Embracing your Yoga Business with Amanda Kingsmith

2.Yogaland | Andrea Ferretti

Andrea Ferretti was a journalist for Yoga Journal and her husband Jason Crandell, is an excellent thorough and knowledgeable teacher of vinyasa yoga. He often speaks on the show about specific yoga questions, whether its posture or how to build your own yoga practice.

I love Andrea’s honesty, she’s spoken about her depression, how she did decide to use prescription drugs and that there’s a lot of stigma regarding this in the yoga culture, where people prefer to use natural remedies to alleviate symptoms of depression.

She also has a great range of guest speakers, so I’m sure you’ll be able to find a podcast on yogaland that fits your fancy.

Episode Best Picks:

Yogaland – Judith Hanson Lasater: Trust Yourself First

Yogaland – Jason Crandell: Create a Home Practice You Love

3. Love Teaching Yoga

I’ve only recently found this podcast by Michelle Linane, its similar to The Connected Yoga Teacher podcast, but its always interesting to hear different perspective on the business of yoga.

I’ve only heard a few episodes, I haven’t had much wifi lately so haven’t downloaded many episodes.

Different topics from how to find your writing style for blogging, to how to teach a multi level class and more in depth conversations about yoga asanas.

Episode Best Picks:

Episode 51: Yoga Writing for Blogs, Email Opt-Ins & More w/Lori Snyder

4.Yoga Hacks Podcast | Brett Larkin

Brett Larkin is a online Youtube Yoga teacher, who also offers Teach Trainings online. She teaches range of yoga styles, from Kundalini, to Vinyasa to Yin yoga.

She also hosts the Savanna Podcast, but Yoga Hacks is more of a podcast with her own tips that she’s learnt as a yoga teacher.

At first I did find Brett a little annoying, if you don’t like super positive and an American accent this may not be the podcast for you.

However the more I listened to her podcast, I could hear that she is very enthusiastic and has a lot of knowledge.

I’ve been more into the spiritual side of yoga, as Brett is very knowledge about Chakras, its been great to listen to her podcasts about it. I also feel that she gives quite her honest opinion on what subject she discusses.

Yoga Hacks Podcast – Episode 29 – Think Your Way Positive

5. Sivana Podcast

Hosted by Brett Larkin, this podcast covers all things spiritual (the eastern kind) from Kundalini to mindfulness, if you’re unsure about a certain topic, that you’ve picked up an interest in recently.

Have a look through the many episodes available. She talks to guest speakers about How the Bacteria in our Gut could impact Human Conciousness (Ep 133).

Episode 137: Mindfulness for Success and Peak Performance – Conversation with John Hankey

6. Tara Brach

Ok so this one isn’t really a yoga related podcast. However meditation is one of the key components of a yoga practice (even if it came later, like it did for me).

Tara Brach is an amazing mindfulness mediation teacher. Her religion as she says is kindness, even through your earphones you’ll be able to feel her kind and compassionate heart.

The subjects she talks about are deep but she explains them so beautifully, why we are so fearful to begin more compassionate to ourselves and to those around us.

On a busy day, I stopped to do one of your meditations, which usually are at the end of each talk and wow I jus felt so calm and energized after a few short minutes.

I’ll be looking into her mindfulness programs that she does online for sure!
